How to make a remote control car

Remote control vehicles are notorious for draining battery power at a startling rate, due to the need to power circuitry and various motors running nonstop. However, by converting a normally battery-powered car to solar power, you can energize your remote controlled vehicle endlessly using the power of the sun alone.

Luckily, this conversion is a simple matter, and can be completed in roughly a half an hour or so. Flip the car upside down and locate the battery panel.

Unscrew the door to the battery panel and set it aside as well. Secure each connection applying solder. Flip the car back over and thread the wires from the solar panel away from the tires. Secure them and the solar panel itself to the body of the car with duct tape, making sure the panel is facing directly upwards.

Take the car outside into a source of direct, consistent sunlight and attempt to drive it with the remote control. After several seconds of charging, the panel should begin the power the car. Things You'll Need. About the Author. Photo Credits. Copyright Leaf Group Ltd.In this tutorial, we are learning how to make remote control car using Arduino. A remote control car can be built using different wireless technology like IR remote, Bluetooth, RC control or wifi module.

A radio controlled RC car has the different techniques to communicate with the robot car. And for that we need some basic components like arduino, ir receiver TSOP and robot car chassis. Here we are building the remote controlled car using the simple IR remote or tv remote control.

An IR remote control sends some modulated IR signal to the receiver. The receiver IR receives the signal and demodulates it. After demodulation and some noise filtering the input signal is extracted. The main issue here is how to decode tv IR remote control signals. We need to follow some steps to decode the IR remote from the arduino.

How To Make a Remote Control Car - Very Simple

We need some basic of how to control a dc motor with arduino. TSOP Datasheet. We have listed all the hex value of the in the table below. The same method will be used to decode the tv remote control or any ir remote control. We have decided to control the remote control car using the five buttons of the ir remote control. The above table showing, what action a remote control car will when we press the button. The table also showing their respective hex code that will be sent by the ir remote to the TSOP connected to the arduino.

When a button 2 is pressed arduino will receive the signal decode it and match from the table. If there is a match in the hex code. Arduino takes action and moves the remote control car accordingly. And this configuration of the button will give the feel of a joystick. And the controlling of the remote control car will be very easy.

The remote control car circuit is given below. By making the circuit you can build a remote control car at home easily. We use some kind of motor driver IC like LD to drive the dc motor. You can also visit our tutorial for this. Do not copy and paste all the code as it is and assume it to work. We have connected it to pin 3 that is a PWM pin in arduino uno. August 31, September 16, August 31, January 25, Hello Nolan Benner, You can drive your motor on 5v or other than 5v like 6v, 9v or 12v as per motor operating voltage or how fast you want to drive the robot.

We name this voltage as Motor Vcc. The arduino board will work with the same or different supply using power jack if external supply applied. In motor driver IC pin no.

All the negative terminal should be connected to each other. Only supply remains different if they are not same. So in this circuit 4,5,12 and 13 of the motor driver are shorted and connected to negative of the battery. It is by mistake.Remote control cars have always been popular and fascinating toys for kids. I had an old broken remote control car lying around, so i decided to use its receiver kit. Remote control Cars also known as RC cars are something every electronic hobbyists would love to build. This article is focused to guide hobbyists to build their own homemade RC car with minimal components. To build a RC car we need to make sure that these blocks are available. The above blocks are divided into two sections Remote and Car for the purpose of understanding. Starting from Keypad which controls the movement of the Car whereas Encoder and decoders are meant to encode and decode the movement signals for secured transmission.

Also transmitter sends the movement signals through wireless medium and receiver fetches the signals for the destination. When these buttons are pressed it passes the movement signals to the encoder.

The Data pins AD0 to AD3 is active low hence pressing the button closes the circuit and a logic 1 or high signal is fed to these pins.

It also contains Address Pins A0 to A7 which allow us to try out different address combinations for secured transmission of data but make sure you use the same address combination in the receiving end decoder.

The Dout Pin gives the encoded output data. The received encoded data signals is received through the antenna and the signal is obtained from DATA pin to feed the decoder. The signal is then decoded by the decoder, remember to use the same address combination used in the encoder if any otherwise the movement signals will be interpreted incorrectly. The decoder also consists of VT pin which serves as a identification if any RF link is established, LED was connected to this pin for identification.

It is highly impossible to drive heavy loads such as motors using decoder IC hence we have used a dedicated LD IC for this purpose. Read more about the Working of LD. A motor for moving the Car forward and backwards whereas the other one is used to steer the car left and right. We are done with the Remote control and the circuits which is about to be placed inside the car.

Now next important thing is provide mechanism to move our RC car front and back. Fix a gear to the motor and to the rail which connects the rear wheels. Fix the motor close to the gear in the rail so that when motor makes a movement the car moves forward.

Likewise when the motor rotates in the opposite direction the car should move backwards. Steering mechanism is bit tricky than the movement mechanism since it requires bit of mechanics. The above animation shows the working of Rack and pinion steering mechanism.

So when this motor moves in clockwise direction the car turn left and vice versa. See the working this gear arrangement in this video. Hope this project was informative to you. Drill two small holes on opposite sides of the index card box - across from one another, not through the lid of the box. Detach the motor's rubber wheels and thread the motor's shafts through the drill holes from inside the box.

This means that the body of the motors should sit inside the box with the shafts poking through the drilled holes. Mount the motors in place with a strip of double-sided sticky tape underneath each one. Press down firmly to secure the connection. Solder the power wires from the battery pack to the power inputs of the 2-channel remote receiver, positive to positive and negative to negative. Solder the wires from the motors to the outputs of the radio receiver, positive to positive and negative to negative.

Place the battery pack and radio receiver into the card box carefully, and secure them in place with more strips of double-sided sticky tape. Attach the rubber wheels to the protruding shafts, and test your construction with your remote control. Your RC car should be able to scoot along on its two wheels forward and backward, and turn left and right.
